    This course presents an overview of the major segments of the events industry such as meetings, exhibitions, special events, and conventions. Students review the roles and responsibilities of destination marketing organizations and destination management companies and examine/evaluate the relationship between official service contractors and professional event planners in the context of their specific functions. This course will highlight the role of the event planner, whose responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, and controlling various types of meetings and special events.

    How is AI-fueled machine translation shaping the contemporary profession of translator/interpreter? Both novice and advancedlanguage learners will find the answer in this course. The fields of Translation and Interpreting are introduced within the broaderframework of Language Services - one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. Learners will gain deeper insight into the buildingof professional grade language services and will discover the wide spectrum of opportunities to apply their language skills, in additionto the traditional roles of translator/interpreter. Hands-on practices are designed within the framework of cultural competence andeffective communication. Case studies are drawn from a variety of source languages, including French, German, Italian, Korean,Russian, and Spanish among others. The examples represent a broad spectrum of texts, and include excerpts from sacred scriptures,world literature, policy documents, marketing materials, lifestyle publications, and the translations of Harry Potter. The course is taughtin English.
